SDG4: Quality Education

In terms of delivering quality education to its students, Ibn Haldun University has made all of its programs to be in conformance with four values. These are “Intellectual Independence”, “Tradition-based Innovation”, “Open Civilization” and a multi-language approach to education.

Intellectual Independence: Ibn Haldun University is not only a university that conveys imported theories and ideas to its students, it is also a university that produces knowledge and its own delivered thoughts. It has been established not only to adopt imported ideas but also to be a university that nurture students with the ability of criticizing these imported ideas and produce their own ideas.

Tradition-Based Innovations: In civilized societies, it is not possible to choose tradition alone or to choose only innovation and completely exclude the other. A society’s total rejection of its tradition means that it will reset its social memory, which is equivalent to the loss of life functions. Ibn Haldun university aims to cultivate students through a pedagogic framework and worldview that aims to balance modernity with ancient heritage, the accumulation of civilizational traditions, and the preservation of social memory in the face of the pressures of globalization and standardization.

Open Civilization and Science: Open Science is a culture of science designed to promote open political culture and society in the best way; It is a strategy to prevent the transformation of intellectual disagreements into political conflicts and a tool for achieving intellectual diversity. Contrary to the nowadays prevailing positivist reductionist popular closed science conception, “Open Science” has (1) a multiplex existence (2) a multiplex knowledge and (3) a multiplex approach. Thus the philosophy and value of open-civilization as a means towards what our rector, Prof. Dr. Recep Senturk calls “diversity management” and a multi-plex approach can help develop a means towards conflict reduction in society. It is also a means of more critical engagement with promoting peaceful values in the Muslim world. This is an important value that the university offers.

Multi-Language Education: Our students will need to master a certain level of English, Turkish and Arabic languages at undergraduate and graduate levels (or another language prescribed by their program). In addition to these 3 languages, other eastern languages such as Japanese, Chinese, Farsi and western languages such as Malay German, French and Spanish, which will create the foundations for the accumulation of world civilizations, are also offered.
