EDEP Advanced Islamic Studies Summer Program 2021

Since 2015, EDEP Summer School for Advanced Islamic Studies has been uniting students of sacred knowledge with some of the most eminent scholars of our time. In past years, the intensive has been hosted in Istanbul. However, amid the Covid-19 pandemic and the extreme limitations on international travel, which will likely remain in place to some degree throughout the summer, the Seventh Annual Summer School for Advanced Islamic Studies program will be held online.

The 2021 Online Intensive Summer School will be four weeks long, between June 21-July 16.

It will be divided into two-week modules.

(1) The first two-week module: Kalâm (5x/week), Hadith (3x/week), and Theories and Methods in Islam (2x/week).

(2) The second two-week module: Fiqh (5x/week) and Usul al-fiqh (5x/week). (plus two elective courses on ‘ilm al-wad‘ and tasawwuf)

The language of the classes will be Arabic, though some seminars may be held in English. Classes will be held on weekdays, with additional seminars by visiting scholars on Saturdays. Two courses will be offered per day, each will be 1.5 hours long, and they will be conducted from 4 pm – 7:30 pm Turkey time. (The detailed program to be announced)

The cost of the program is $400, payable upon acceptance to the program. (Non-refundable after the third day of the classes)

We invite students who are fluent in Arabic. The application deadline is May 2nd, 2021.

2. Kalam (علم الكلام): Salih Ekinci

3. Theories and Methods in Islam: Recep Şentürk

4. Fiqh (Hanafi) (الفقه الحنفي): Hamza Bekri

5. Usul al-fiqh (أﺻﻮل اﻟﻔﻘﻪ): Hamza Bekri

*Two elective courses will be offered on ‘ilm al-wad‘ and tasawwuf.
