At the opening of the first level of the Course, the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences Prof. Bilal Aybakan made a speech. Aybakan stated that there were two “lingua franca” in the world in the Middle Ages, Arabic was a language of knowledge in the Islamic world and Latin in the non-Islamic world. Prof. Aybakan mentioned that because religion dominated all areas of culture in the Islamic geography, Arabic was the language of knowledge regardless of ethnicity, as he said.
Prof. Aybakan stated that in recent years, there are remarkable vitality and awareness in our country on the subject of handwritten scripts. Many of these scripts are waiting, according Aybakan, in the Western and eastern libraries to be investigated in a mass scholarly work. In order to be able to produce knowledge, clear connections to our past scientific knowledge should be created. “Therefore, we started this course at our university in order to train qualified people in the scope of trainer-trainee relationship,” Aybakan said. Prof. Bilal Aybakan closed his speech by thanking President of our university Prof. Recep Şentürk and the Board of Trustee through these words, " They support every beautiful and valuable idea." The Paleography course will continue under the supervision of Hamzeh al-Bakri. The course will continue for 8 days; theory aspects will be presented in the first 3 days while the application exercises of Paleography will be given in the last 5 days.
