IHU Holds the 2nd Children’s Literature Student Symposium
The 2nd Student Symposium of Children’s Literature which was organized by the Department of Comparative Literature was held online on Saturday, March 20.

The 2nd Student Symposium of Children’s Literature which was organized by the Department of Comparative Literature was held online on Saturday, March 20. The symposium, which was broadcast live on IHU’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/ibnhalduni), was fully organized by IHU’s students who participated with their papers to the symposium.

In the welcoming speech, Assist Prof. Melike Günyüz stated that the department of Comparative Literature follows the world of children’s literature closely. She added that the department has made thematic readings, comparative readings between authors, periods and genres in that context. Stressing out that the department closely follows the publishing industry in terms of the dynamics of children’s literature genre, Günyüz underlined that this symposium, which is organized for the second time this year, opens a space for the academics of the future and provides an opportunity for them to express themselves.

In her speech, Head of the Department of Comparative Literature Assist. Prof. Nagihan Haliloğlu also stated that the field of Children’s Literature is one of the strong areas of the department, and added that students have learned to make comparisons between genres and between nations in the field of literature, as can be seen in the symposium sessions. Expressing her feelings towards students’ contribution to the symposium, Haliloğlu Stated that they as a department are very happy to listen to presentations which students build on the university courses. She concluded her speech by saying that such symposiums may be opened to students from other universities in Turkey and abroad in the future.

After the speeches of the symposium which consisted of two consecutive sessions, each of Fatma Asude Akın, Şevval Naz İlik, Sedefnur Sarıkaya, Ayşenur Süme, Ani Setya Pertiwi, Fatou Jobe and Fatih Cihan Zent delivered presentations on their papers.
