In line with Turkiye's 2053 net-zero emission target, circular economy vision, and green development strategy, the Turkish Green Campus Center of Excellence Project has been awarded support by the Turkish Environment Agency of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The project aims to establish a systematic, measurable, and exemplary structure for sustainability principles in higher education institutions.
Based on the six core components of the UI GreenMetric University Ranking System (infrastructure, energy, waste, water, transportation, and education), the project will transform our University's Başakşehir Campus into a pilot application center. This will achieve both practical transformation and an increase in institutional capacity.
Ibn Haldun University, which defines its primary goals as 'raising individuals with high environmental and social awareness who contribute to society,' 'academic excellence centered on sustainability and ethical values,' and 'disseminating sustainability practices on campus,' will be taking a significant step towards these objectives with the 'Green Campus Center of Excellence' project. The sustainable campus model, set to be implemented through sustainability-based activities within the project, is aimed to serve as an example for all universities in Turkey.
Currently, solar energy systems are installed on the roofs of all buildings and in the parking areas on our campus. Additionally, many applications related to water and waste management, from rainwater harvesting tanks to recycling bins, are actively in operation. With the 'Green Campus Center of Excellence' project, all these existing practices will be further developed, and monitoring activities will also be implemented.
To reinforce sustainability, one of the most important pillars of the project will be education, awareness, and academic support activities. Within this scope, various activities will be carried out with the aim of establishing a sense of ecological citizenship for future generations, along with cultural and behavioral development in society, primarily among members of our University.
