Professor Halil Berktay, Head of the Department of History at Ibn Haldun University said, legitimazing the use of violence, armed struggle or actual fighting against the injustices done by Israel, will not open the path to obtain results, but it can only be defeated by an extensive peace front and that needs a long running struggle. During a seminar organized by Üsküdar Municipality titled "Will Jerusalem be the capital of Israel?", with the participation of Professor Berdal Aral from the Department of International Relations at İstanbul Medeniyet University, Professor İsmail Taşpınar from the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University and Turan Kışlakçı, head of Turkish-Arabic Media Association, Professor Berktay stated that obtaining a successful result in the Palestinian cause, all Arab countries and the Palestinian organizations should refuse using weapons and show the world that it is Israel that uses terrorism. "To defeat Israel, it is necessary to organize an extended peace front that touches the oppositions in Israel and that will not leave Israeli people into the hands of Zionists and the American imperialism." he added. Emphasizing that the national ideology of Israel is so much bounding Professor Berktay said; "Israel has nuclear weapons, a secret that everybody knows. That country is by far superior than the surrounding Arab and Muslim countries in terms of technology. It has the support of USA, the West and even Russia. In such circumstances, waiting the Arab countries to mobilize to support Palestinians' legitimate right of self defence is almost a hope for the impossible."
Concerning US decision to accept Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, professor Berktay said he believes the city has became the capital of occupation. "This is the reality of the world. I am not sure if any other country will follow Trump's decision. May be not. But for now, Jerusalem is the capital of occupation. Unfortunately, sometimes the unjust can win. We have to wait and see what will happen in the midterm." Speaking at the seminar moderated by journalist Zeynep Türkoğlu, Professor Berdal Aral from the Department of International Relations at İstanbul Medeniyet University said, United Nation Security Council should be mobilized against US decision to accept Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. "Israel's attacks on Palestine and the neighbouring Arab countries is against the international law and it is also a crime against humanity. UN Security Council should adopt a decision imposing sanctions against Israel. The Council should even declare war against Israel, if no results is obtained after all those diplomatic efforts. Another solution could be imposing an all out ambargo against Israel by the members of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation." he added. Turan Kışlakçı, the Head of Turkish-Arabic Media Association said, the problem of Palestine and Jerusalem could be solved by mobilizing international law even if the international system only supports the powerful. "We should bring up the Palestinian cause to the agenda of the world against the fabricated legend of the Jews." he said. Kışlakçı emphasized that the supporters of the Palestinian cause should create awareness about Jerusalem and Palestine, by organizing meetings, seminars, peaceful demostrations all around the world. "This would not only save Jerusalem, but it will also save the future of the Islamic world." he added. According to Kışlakçı, a new type of media is also needed, that is respected and followed all around the world, publishing the truth told by strong intellectuals. Kışlakçı said, "Jerusalem found peace under the administration of the Muslims. But peace did not prevailed under Christian and Jewish rule." Professor İsmail Taşpınar from the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University said, Jerusalem issue could only be solved, by searching all the details under the supervision of Mideast experts.
